Stool making

Spend a day making a wooden stool, from shaping the legs to fitting the joints.

What you do

A full day at the bench, and a piece of furniture at the end of it. The host guides you through each stage: shaping the legs, drilling the seat at the right angles, fitting the joints and wedging them tight so the stool stays solid for years. Depending on the workshop, you work with green wood and a shaving horse or with sawn timber and hand tools. There is time to make it your own with a shape, a finish or a colour.

What you take home

A sturdy wooden stool that you built, and the satisfaction of sitting on it.

Who it suits

Small teams on an away day, leadership groups and anyone who likes a proper project. It takes a full day, so it works best as the main event.
