What you do

Watercolour is about letting the water do some of the work. An artist shows you how to load a brush, lay a flat wash and a graded one, work wet into wet and add crisp details once the paper has dried. You practise on small studies, then paint a finished piece: a botanical, a landscape or a sketch of the street outside. It is quiet and absorbing, the kind of session where time disappears.

What you take home

One or two finished paintings and a feel for a medium you can carry anywhere in a small tin.
