This pottery wheel class in Paris runs on Saturdays from 2pm to 5pm in a bright, glass-roofed studio in the Parmentier area of the 11th arrondissement. It is open to every level from age 14, and no previous experience is needed.
Up to four pieces, thrown on the wheel. The studio glazes and fires them, and they are ready within a month. People who live outside Paris can pay extra to have them posted.
A potter first demonstrates the wheel: centring the clay and raising it into a cylinder or a bowl. You are then guided through several attempts, with a friendly team beside you for every try. The format is hands-on and absorbing, the sort of repetitive, hypnotic work many people find calming.
All materials, glazing, firing and a snack.
Complete beginners, friends, couples and curious teenagers.
The workshop can be adapted into a team building or outing format, and the whole studio can be privatised.
