What you do

Macramé uses a few simple knots, repeated, to make something that looks far more complicated than it is. The host shows you how to mount cords on a ring or a wooden dowel, then teaches the lark's head, the square knot, the half hitch and the spiral, and how to combine them into patterns. You choose between a plant hanger and a wall hanging, add beads or a fringe and trim it to finish. Your hands stay busy and your mind wanders.

What you take home

A finished plant hanger or wall hanging, ready to put up at home.

Who it suits

Wellbeing weeks, social sessions and groups who like a calm, repetitive craft. It needs only chairs and a hook or rail, so it travels well.
